It took just one round to end the championship match between Danny Green and Roy Jones Jr. One round.
Although he was the challenger, Roy Jones Jr was heavily favored to win over the champion Green. This was Green’s first defense of his IBO cruiserweight title since winning it last August. Jones wanted this Green’s belt since it would make him the first boxer to win all five divisions between both middleweight and heavyweight.
The first round started well enough with fighters sizing up each other with jabs. A minute into the round, Green managed to floor Jones Jr with a vicious right. Jones Jr got up but was obviously dazed. Green sensed this and went for the kill, hitting Jones Jr with a flurry of blows while Jones Jr leaned helplessly on the ropes. The referee Howard Foster stopped the fight at 2:02 and declared Green the winner by TKO.
Jones graciously accepted defeat, by telling the crowd:
“We don’t make excuses, it was a great performance by Danny.”
It was a bad loss for Jones Jr since it came so quickly and from so
meone with less skill and experience. Kudos to Danny Green for a stellar performance.

The loss does not in any way tarnish Roy Jones Jr’s legendary status as one of the best boxers of all time. The loss meant one thing: age has finally caught up with the great fighter. At 40, perhaps
it is time for him to consider hanging up his gloves and call it a day.
